A great songwriter and hopefully resting in peace.

The tullips of Amsterdam

Well, well, well. Ages since a post from me. Oh dear, November apathy has crept in to the Rants…

We just had a long weekend in Amsterdam. We had a rather nice apartment and the tram system was excellent. We saw the Anne Frank Huis (very moving), the Van Gogh Museum (a let down, sadly), the Heineken Experience (an advert you had to pay to see!) and had a canal cruise (great fun). We met the spliff Santa on the canal, we went to see the ‘ladies of the night’ and we ate at some nice places. All in all, a good place to visit.

Now we have house things to concentrate on for a bit and the Christmas celebrations to look forward to before 2009 starts. The shopping for Christmas is going really quite badly at the moment, November apathy again, possibly? Not good!

Ferris is now one year old, he had a jolly day on his birthday where our old dog Dexter sang to him and he got a variety of squeaking items as gifts. We have also lived in our home for a year now, as we moved in the day before Ferris was born.

Anyhoo, swimming calls…

North and South; Winter and Autumn

Hmmm, no goals yet, but the Gooners have had 62% possession so far. Good-oh. However, after losing to Stoke I have little hope for us today. Finger’s are crossed in the cottage, let us say. Well, Mr Chicken’s are not, they are soaking in a hot bath as we speak, but he refuses stoutly to involve himself in Arsenal related things at all times. Meanie. Or sensibly, perhaps?

So, life is good. Autumn is turning in to winter, big bad icy winds are a-blowing round the village and I am sat at the table looking out over a lovely variety of browns, golds and oranges as the leaves die with the year. I have taken to the new MacBook, and Big Wig looks on reproachfully as I write. I even play Diablo II on here, which has upset Biggy.

We have discovered that Ferris, like so many other dogs, hates fireworks this week. He bristles up at the first pop in the night sky and sits watchfully at the window with his eyes wide and worried. I think tonight will be the worst night for them, too, as so far the wind and drizzle have put most people off.

WHOAAAAAAA! Goal! For Arsenal, too! Goo-ners! Gooooooo-nnnerrrrss!

Anyhoo, DIY and cupboard clearing calls. Ho-hum.

American Dream

I have spent much of my day thinking about a country I’ve never even been to (and, if my beloveds thoughts on their immigration policies stays the same, am unlikely ever to), but then they are a nation that politically and economically effects us all. Yup, ’tis the States of America. It is election day, of course, over the pond, and it looks like – fingers crossed – it may be a pretty historic one.

I can’t decide whether to stay up or get up early, but either way, I am foolishly over excited now…
