Pumpkin head

I have just carved out a pumpkin for the first time since the 1990s. This was mainly because I’ve had an odd mania for pumpkin soup, and, as there tends to be lots of ‘trick or treating’ round the village I might as well use the shell ‘n’ all. When I was at Uni the Pagan festival was always an excuse to dress up as a witch or devil or the like and troop off round Huddersfield for a pint or three. Guy Fawkes night, a favourite when younger, has since become a bit of a noisy night for my dogs. Oh, and an excuse to eat parkin cake. This year we’re going to have fireworks on Saturday night, which should be fun and hopefully Hallowe’en won’t be too over the top… The weather was dreadful last night, but East Devon is much worse off than us. The wind is still whistling round, but at least the rain has stopped for the time being. I am once again very annoyed with the result of The Restaurant. I hated them all at first but the bumbling ineptitude of Ally and James has endeared them to me, unlike the constant grinning of those running the hideously titled Cheerful Soul. Oh well, on Raymond’s head be it, they will probably end up like the last two to win and close-up shop within months of the cameras turning off. I hope the other big result, coming next week in the exciting American serial, the Presidential Election, will not be so disappointing. Still, things seem to be going reasonably well, touch wood. This is my first post on the new MacBook. ‘Tis very smart and my beloved is more than happy with it, so I am happy too. Oh, well, I will try to sort out posting about our hols, but for now I want to find a good face for my orange friend in the kitchen, so back sometime soon. [queue Vincent Price laughing evilly] |

Joe Brown sometimes sighs wistfully at the mention of Parkin which he used to eat when house-sharing many years ago. I might make him some for when he gets back from his work trip on Wednesday.
