Last night Chicken and I used the Orange Wednesdays offer to go and see The Simpsons Movie. Actually, despite the awful shite the series has descended in to these days, it was quite funny. At 87 minutes it hardly seemed much longer than a normal episode and we wouldn’t have been thrilled had we paid out the full £12, but at half price we won’t grumble.
It had the great one liners and faint American irony of the earlier series and actually had Homer as the original evil bastard of a husband/father/citizen that he once was for a while, before once again giving him a sentimental sheen to finish. Still, it was funny whilst it lasted. The lack of the extended cast, in all but short spurts, was a shame, with the presence of Patti and Selma and Sideshow Bob particularity showing.
The plot seemed a little too organised for The Simpsons, with annoying and pointless additions like Lisa’s love interest Colin (why do Yanks insist on trying to do “Oirish” accents?)
Anyhoo, it made us laugh, but I can hardly remember any of the jokes now. The only one I can was regarding Homer and whipping and I only remember that because Chicken and I laughed really loudly and no one else in the cinema did, just all looked round at us…
