Little Miss Sunshine

Lil Miss ShineWe just finished watching Little Miss Sunshine, a film we have been wanting to see for yonks. It wasn’t life changing, but it was a good way to spend an hour and a half of said life. After all, we geeks and freaks can all relate to dancing round on stage whilst all the “normal people” look on horrified, can’t we?

The film follows a dysfunctional family attempting to get their daughter/niece/sister/granddaughter to a beauty pageant. They drive to California in a very clapped out VW camper and have a large number of mishaps on the way.

There were good performances - in rather unforgiving roles - all round.Paul Dano, in particular, was excellent in what so easily could have been a over played role. As Nietzsche reading, non-speaking Dwayne he underplayed the part and gave it a real hint of teenage angst and aimless rage. Steve Carell, as suicidal Proust scholar Frank, also gives a fine performance.

A jolly little film, worth a watch, definitaly.
