An American in Devon

The lack of posting has been down to a very busy and enjoyable weekend. On Thursday, Aram arrived in a very murky and wet Devonshire. On Friday, Chicken had the day off, so we headed out to Lynmouth, a favourite spot of ours. It was actually sunny (if very blowy!) as well. We walked all the way - almost vertically - up to Lynton, Lynmouth’s “twin” town on top of the sheer hills that rise above the lower living place. Mr C had his first ever Devon cream tea (daft, I know, but we don’t go out for tea much!) and then we headed back to Barnie, via Simonsbath and Swimbridge. In the evening we had a very pleasant drink at the Panniers (sad that Barnstaple’s “best” pub is a Wetherspoon’s, but hey…). On Saturday, with the sun still out, we went for a walk from Croyde to Baggy Point, which was absolutely glorious. In the afternoon we walked around Barnstaple and had a quiet evening in. Yesterday we all got up at 5:30am (made today’s 7:30am wake-up seem like a real lie-in!) to drive to Bristol airport. We got there in quick time, and dropped off Aram for his 10:3am flight at around 7:50am. Chicken and i then searched for an open coffee establishment, but it being a Sunday we had a hard time. We finally plumped for Chepstowe services, where we spent a happy hour or so drinking coffee and reading the papers. It was a life-saver! We then had a hectic Sunday morning shop in evil capitalist Swedish shop. We got all sorts of cool stuff, but the wardrobe we wanted was out of stock. We then had lunch at a Mexican place called Chicato, which was good. We had been there before with al and Mum, but this time the food was much better. Then we went to Cribbs Causeway and got ourselves good walking boots and various bits to help Chicken with the cold that was getting its grips on him. After that we whizzed off home, for a bath and bed at 21:30! Tired now, but it was good fun. |
