Revolutionary Rants

Because Everything’s Political

Bright

The sun is still shining. Yesterday Alex and I took advantage with a game of badminton in Rock Park, but it was a bit breezy so we only lasted about an hour.

Today I exposed my Goth-esque calves (or should that be “cankles”?) to the sun in cropped trousers. Daring or what? I have been to Bideford and volunteered. It was very quiet again, we suppose the better weather has improved life for our usual visitors. Tonight Chicken and I may go to the beach or for a swim at the leisure centre (the sea must still be freezing).

Tomorrow I have more volunteering and helping Mum with the little people.

The grockles are out in force now, getting trapped off cliffs at night, wandering blindly around the shops shoving their trolleys in to your innocent legs, complaining about “Devon” loudly. One thing we didn’t need was more chavs, but they are here in their droves… Oh well, Finger’s crossed it was a Great White, then…

Sun and sharks

SharkThe sun! The sun is out!!! Just as the South West tourist agencies sigh with relief a blurred little video from The Sun has shown a possible Great White shark sighting off the coast of Cornwall! A shark expert has just said (on the Beeb) it wasn’t a great white, but was more likely to have been a Mako, which also has a white under belly. I can’t help but think whatever it is it won’t put off the surfers, anyhow.

I cannot believe it is actually sunny, and that it was sunny-ish most of yesterday. Very exciting.

Anyhoo, I am going to get on with my day and enjoy the change in the weather!

For the memory palace

Nothing much to report, having a quiet weekend again. Reading Hannibal, watching programmes about British film, playing badminton with Alex, Parnie, Matt and Kelly in Rock Park until the rain drove us home, shopping in town, visited Nan this morning and now we’re going for a walk. Possible Wii playing may follow…

Hallowed cover*** SPOILERS ***

Do not read if you do not want to know the plot of the final ‘Harry Potter’ book!!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – a review

I keep promising a review of this, and it is now a week or so since I read it, so I have had time to digest it and decide what I think…

Drip, drip, drip little July “showers”

I will write my review of the previously mentioned book shortly, but at the moment I am still deciding what I think…

It was sunny yesterday, which was a lovely change. Now, we are back to drizzle and grey. At least we might actually take some notice of the global warming warnings (what a horrible way of putting, Jess…) now, if instead of the predicted heatwave we get miserable Irish-style weather… At least we are not flooded, anyway.

Speak of Eire, Chris and I took advantage of the sale by one of the less than scrupulous budget airlines to get flights to Dublin this winter for £40 there and back (that’s the total, with tax)! We have booked a double en suite room at a hostel I used to use when I went gigging in the capital, Kinlay House. That was also pretty low in the budget stakes, so we can have a nice holiday in the darker months of the year. We are looking forward to it.

Nothing much else to report, was volunteering yesterday and will be later today, then heading over to the ‘Bridge to help mum with the little people, who are on their summer hols as of today. Oh, and Chicken looks very lovely in his new glazzies!

Elemental

An element, my dear Watson…Trip to Exeter was good. The train – for once – wasn’t too busy and we got seats both ways. Whilst there I got a shawl to go with me frock for the wedding of our former housemates, Andy and Sarah, which we shall attend in September. We went for a pleasant lunch at Bella Italia, with some vouchers. We had a gorgeous lemon tart thingy, and I enjoyed pesto for the first time in months. Lovely.

Today has been a quiet one so far. We have got a new element for our bust oven, which will be paid for, luckily. We found it in a wonderful little shop in the arcade in Barnstaple, which saved us as we couldn’t find one anywhere on the interweb!

Other than that I have been hoping my book arrives tomorrow morning, playing on the Wii and in town. Tomorrow we are going to a BBQ for my nephew and – hopefully – reading the new Harry Potter!

The Beeb fesses up?

The BBC political correspondent has said ” ‘fessed up” twice this morning. Good grief… I wish Andrew Marr would return to his old job, I really do…

Two days to go. So excited! I hope my book actually gets here on Saturday, or i might go mental.

Off to Exeter today, with Mum, for a bit of a capitalist day out. We’re going on the train.

The sun is in the sky, oh why oh why would we wanna be anywhere else?

Wow, the sun is shining today! It was, according to the weather forecast on the Beeb, due to be pouring again, but it isn’t! Hooray, hooray. It is not quite the blazing sun we had at this time last summer, but it’ll do.

I am off to investigate the tennis courts at Rock Park in a bit, because Alex and I are interested in trying out a little bit of very non-competitive tennis, inspired by our play on the Wii.

One of our Gunner idols, Theirry Henry, has proven himself, like Dirk Bogarde, to be something of a fallen idol. He needed to get away from “everything English” and this included his wife of four years and two year old child, apparently. Deary me…

I can’t believe how great it is to have some sunshine – it just goes to show how little we must have had so far this year…

Awaiting the Deathly Hallows

A quiet weekend for us, catching up on sleep and laziness after the busy one last week. It was sunny yesterday, which was lovely. Alex, Kelly, Parnie and I played badminton in the park and Chicken and I enjoyed town and iced coffee. Today we slept-in and played a few rounds of Wii tennis at the parents’. A poussin/salmon Sunday dinner later and now we are chilled on the sofa enjoying a slow evening.

Wishing Deathly Hallows was out already, and the excitement is reaching fever pitch now with the new film and the signs being put up all over town. I remember Alex having Philosopher’s Stone read to him just after it came out and although this is one of the bandwagons I have jumped on later down the line, I really can’t wait to find out how things turn out!

Really, really, really sad, I know…
