Revolutionary Rants

Because Everything’s Political

The Family of Blood

A lot of people of the Points of View site, as well as the Geek Girl, seem to have love The Family of Blood story on Doctor Who but I really didn’t get on with it. Not because it wasn’t “like Who” or whatever, but just because it was so bloody boring. It seemed to go on forever, and could’ve been a one-parter I reckon. I didn’t find the family that scary, the scarecrows were a rip-off from Batman and the family themselves seemed to be Slaveen knock-offs with slightly more staring and less maniacal laughing.

I am getting completely fed-up with the human sidekicks falling in love with the Doctor. Don’t get me wrong, the Doctor turning human and falling in love is fine (if predictable) but why oh why do we have to have this romantic crap going on with Martha? First Rose fell for him and now her. I mean, I can understand falling for Mr Tennant, but, surely - as was empathised in this episode - the Doctor is not a very nice person and very detached from emotion.

One final thing: surely giving the lad the watch to save himself meant that the Doctor altered the course of history, didn’t it?

Rant over, but I don’t know if I will bother with next weeks episode.

There’s an article of the telly just now about the rise of Wicker. There are wizen conservative church types decrying how wicker can lead to Satanism. What?! I think I might think on this and have a rant later. But I am interested in the idea that women are empowered by wicker, whilst most Christian religions are male-dominated. We are, after all, merely a spare-rib according to Christianity… More later, perhaps.

Had a quiet day yesterday, on the PS2/computer and had a trip in to town. Not sure what we’ll do today, but maybe a cycle or walk.

OK, so first it’s better to video Doctor Who and watch it in one sitting. Personally, I thought it was good to see the Doc’s less happy side, and of course he interferes in history every week, otherwise we would all have been overrun by aliens, I think before the extinction of the dinosaurs…
I love the idea of wicker being able to bring about the downfall of humanity; I will put my Lloyd Loom chairs into storage straight away. Oh you mean the ancient TV traveller whose documentary about WWII was on. Oh no you mean the witchcraft/Satanism link. Is there any proof this wasn’t invented by Dennis Wheatley and his fans? I better get back to my complete box set of Buffy and check up with Willow. Why not check out ‘Wicca’ at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neopagan#Wicca It says here it was invented (delineated?) in 1954.
And really your church politics… Surely much more disturbing is that the quite mainstream C of E educationalists are talking about getting so called ‘intelligent design’ into the curriculum is way more disturbing.
I believe it was the people later known as the Jews, that came up with the rib idea, and to repeat myself, much of the so called Old Testament is meant as a metaphor, not as truth in the literal sense and reflects the times it was written in and the cultural norms of the people who wrote it. In much the same way modern ‘religions’ reflect the times they were invented in. Is a religion based on the worship of the female aspects of a supreme being, or indeed of our own culture, more innately valid that others with a more patriarchal structure usually imposed on it by later more conservative, hence powerful, adherents? I don’t think so.
I really should try to get out more. Love and Peace.
