Revolutionary Rants

Because Everything’s Political

Paris, Charlotte and Harry

Our lovely new Wii and gameJust relaxing enjoying a coffee and reading “the papers” online and this story has made me laugh enough to blog about it. Good for Mika Brzezinski, I say. The sooner we have rid of the vapid, no talent that is Ms Hilton, the better. I don’t think it is likely to happen anytime soon though, as the current media trend to watching airheads implode (La Lohan, Titney Bears, the Pete and Kate show) is ever growing…

Mr C enjoyed this article (or rather, its pictures) as well. With myself, Charl and Nigella Lawson being his favourite ladies I think it is safe to say he is not a “size zero” type of a guy…

We bought our Wii yesterday, very exciting. Plus we got in the package the brand new (it was out yesterday) Harry Potter game. I have waited until this morning to play it (I mean, you use the Wiimote to actually cast your spells, for goodness sake, how exciting!!!). Today we are forecast a “severe weather warning” in the South West, so we are planning on staying in, playing on the Wii, tidying and watching the last in the series of Doctor Who. Smashing!

The future is Brown

The ghastly leader-in-waitingA “Device” has been found in Piccadilly Circus over night. Seems all very odd. Is it a jab at Brown? Is it a jab a theatre-goers? Only time will tell. A rather curt gentleman informed the Beeb this morning that despite the “pressures of 24-hour news” it was be “counterproductive to speculate at this time”.

The new Cabinet was formed yesterday. It included a few surprises (Jacqui Smith and the lack of decent post for Hillary Benn) and a few no-brainers (bye bye Reid, hello Darling and Miliband). It will be interesting to see how things go whilst they get bedded in…

The rain has come back today, but we escaped it mostly yesterday, which was unexpected. Got some washing done, hooray. I do wish we could have some proper summer tho’, I currently feel like I have been transported back to Eire…

The weekend promises a big house tidy, a lot of sleeping and the possible purchase of a Wii.

City of Dreams?

Nothing much to report, work and volunteering go on, job applications roll off, Medievil 2 progresses.

Chicken and I sat down last night to watch a programme about one of our favourite places, Paris. Sadly, in a similar way to the tour of Italy that was on BBC2 a couple of years ago (which featured a puffed up Italian, perma-tanned and white haired reveling in the massacres carried out in Italy’s name), the whole programme was spoiled by a awful presenter. We attempted to watch the programme in French when the presenters laboured accent in English annoyed us, but the red button wouldn’t let us! Then she spoke in French and we realised it was just her general way of speaking that was annoying. She kept saying things like “the railways changed the way Parisians worked, rested and played”, or “the cafes changed the way Parisians worked, rested and played”, or “the Louvre changed the way Parisians worked, rested and played”. She was also full of uninteresting personal anecdotes which mainly seemed somewhat unrelated to the topics in hand…

I  wish the Beeb would return to narrator driven series instead of having prattish presenters waffling on.

Farewell

The KingThierry Henry has left Arsenal…

Gone to the bastard Barcelona of all places (better than dirty Spurs, I suppose)…

It is an end of an era. Like when Wrighty retired, and the “war horses” (Adams, Keown, Winterburn, Dixon) left the game I feel like a little bit of “my Arsenal” has gone. The team when I followed them with obsession, that is, now they are my team and I support them but it isn’t a matter of life and death. It was when I was a teenager, a rather obsessive character.

You’ll be missed TH…

Another departure of note this weekend was of course our Prime Minister of the last ten years, Mr Blair Blair. I remember writing in my diary on the day/night New Labour were elected “GO LEFT“. They didn’t, of course, and the rest is now history. Mandelson, flats in Bristol, tuition fees, cash for peerages, that war… An eventful decade for us all. Now a much younger looking Brown is in place as leader and the deputy is being announced in about an hour and a half. Goodbye Tony, goodbye and good riddance.
I think I’ll miss Henry more, tho’…

It has been a busy weekend. Alex has been visiting and we bemoaned the loss of Seany over a Chinese on Friday night. Yesterday I did my first ever motorway drive as we went to Exeter. I met up with my friend Andrew and we had a pleasant lunch in one of the new Princesshay developments. On return home I was surprised by a Chicken “make-over” and we all went for a drink to celebrate. After a lie-in today (until 9:00 - that would have been an early rise a year or two ago…) we are planning a walk at Arlington Court this afternoon. If the rain holds off…

Solstice

Oh the horrorWell, it is the longest day of the year. The summer solstice. And it is a miserable day, rain rain rain all the way… Yesterday was productive and busy. I volunteered at my Barnstaple position, which was as busy as I have ever seen it. The word was this was because there was a roast turkey dinner for the main meal!

After I finished up there I went off to Swimbridge and walked Dexter. Then I collected the kids from school. After their tea they pottled around ’til their mum got home and I headed off.

I returned home to a lovely meal of baked rainbow trout with garlic and tyme and stir-fried long-stemmed broccoli, asparagus and red chilli. The boy really can cook, just wish he did more often! Well, it was a delicious treat.

Mum and Alex are back from Paris and have had a good time. They have returned, as you always seem to post-holiday, to rain and cold. Oh well. Poor bastards at Glasto, that’s what I say.

Poor bastards in the Lib Dems as well. Not only are they in the Lib Dems and have the on-going embarrassment that is Lembit “Cheeky Girl lover” Opik they also are now having to tout out Paddy Ashdown to the Labour Party. Is Brown trying to overshadow Blair’s exit? Are the Lib Dems trying desperately to get some publicity? Who knows…

Not many plans for today, returning the Wii to our kid and probably picking up the little people again. Tomorrow it is probably gonna be eviction night and a take-away with Alex and Mr C and then Andrew is visiting Exeter over the weekend, so a trip there on Saturday.

Eco-washer

Another weekend has flitted by. Chicken, as you know, worked on Saturday and has gained a day and a half of holiday time in its place. Very nice, too. We have a visit from one of Mr C’s school pals next month and we are hoping to make a trip to Edinburgh later this year, so it’ll come in handy.

The shorter weekend was not so good, especially as we had to spend yesterday buying a washing machine (AAA rated, of course) and taking the old one to the dump. Booooring stuff indeed. We played on the Wii for a lot of the rest of the day, so much so that we both have painful arms today.

In fact, that’s enough blogging for now because my wrist keeps cracking in a scary way…

The Master!

Ohmigod! The Master is back! Very ‘citing. More exciting still is that he is now portrayed by John Simm. Both yum and argh! Can’t wait for next weeks episode, actually… Thought it was going to be a very boring one, this week, thinking “what’s Claudius doing there?!”, but then it went brilliant!

Most of the time I loath Jimmy Nesbitt. For one thing, I hate Irish people that still think calling themselves “Jimmy” will make them bankable to the UK public.. Probably it does, but I still loath it… Anyhoo, after this shameless peice of BBC ratings attempt I tuned in to BBC4 to see Ian Rankin observing Jekyll and Hyde. They both have a “y”, he said. No, not really. He went around Edinburgh, which looks such an amazing city, through Burke and Hare (Irish boys, of course, they had to be…), to Hunt’s museum in London and through to sexuality. Great programme. I like Beeb 4.

Little things please little minds…

Just got a British Prime Ministers wall chart from my Guardian! Very exciting! It is now up on our bathroom door. It has actually tempted me in to buying The Guardian, which I haven’t bothered with for quite some weeks: how sad am I? Very, methinks, very.

It poured yesterday, but unlike much of Yorkshire we escaped flooding in any big way. We had a quiet evening and watched telly.

Chicken went off to work this morning, but he should only be on half a day, hopefully. I have been to shop and to Nan’s this morning. I swear Saturday drivers are worse than Sunday ones. I took my life in my hands out there today… There are so many people out on a Saturday, I hate dealing with them all. So many times I have said/felt/thought/known Satre was right: hell is other people…

In a spin-cycle

A bloody capitalist cloth cleaning thingTired. Had three or four wake-up calls from Mr C’s work. The servers weren’t down, but sometimes they think they are… Oh well. Had a busy, busy day looking after my two little people. They pottled at home and came over to our place play on the borrowed Wii. We had to collect Chicken from work, die to the evil rain. Parts of Yorkshire are under water, apparently…

Mr C is working tomorrow morning at least, so it is a foreshortened weekend, but I am sure it will be a good one anyway. We had thought of going to Bristol, but we feel so tied today we’re not sure, plus the washing machine has died, so we need to precure a new one… Great fun.

Wii wonderland

The WiiYesterday was busy, with a drive to Bideford and a busy drop-in session. Having been round smaller orginally Northern evil capitalist shop and forgetting a again to buy a new electric kettle (ours died after almost four years of valiant service on Sunday morning) I had to go to the evil capitalist shop with an orange sign to get one.

I then got hold of my brother on the phone and he informed me he had purchased a Wii. I hadn’t tried one out so a trip to Swimbridge was called for. I did the Wii training and then we played bowling and tennis until I realised Mr C was home from work in five minutes and headed home. Mum and Alex are off to Paris tomorrow and we are allowed to borrow said Wii during his holiday - ‘citing!

Looking forward to tonight as it is the final of The Apprentice. It won’t be quite as exciting as the all-female final I was anticipating, but I think it will still be good, especially as all the fired contestants return to assist in the final task. Can’t imagine Tre will be in a forgiving mood… I have been thinking Kristina will win it for several weeks now (I thought Katie would have the rugged pulled out from her in the final, as, I suspect, did she) and that is still what I am thinking. Although S’Alan claims to be looking for someone ‘drop-dead shrewd’ I think he still has a soft spot for the ‘working-class/less privilaged made good’ story and Kristina getting herself through University after giving birth - in an Irish convent - at 17 will no doubt tickle his fancy. But then again, Simon is more star-struck and would perhaps be easier to slot in to Amstrad…

Not sure who I am going for, though. Kristina is Irish and a single-mum made good, but she is also evil; Simon was born with a very large silver spoon in the gob but he seems nicer in general and is very clever… I dunno. Well, we’ll see later on.
