I have had some sad news about my old Division at Huddersfield today, one of our original lecturers is leaving soon under rather complex circumstances. He will be greatly missed, I am sure. The Division is almost unrecognisable from the day in September 2001 when joined, and I am not sure that this is in a good way. For one thing, I would not be joining the course now as you can no longer complete a degree in a department solely based around Politics. A shame…
Yesterday was quiet, as I mentioned in my last post. In the evening we were torn away from the CBB final to watch Top Gear and the return of Richard ‘The Hamster’ Hammond to the show post-crash. Hammond’s crash was quite scary to see, with the tyre clearly going and all the prior runs leaving you wincing, especially when he cried “I feel so alive, so alive!” Still, at least he is still so alive! We then enjoyed seeing Shilpa Shetty triumph over the bullies, who were conspicuous in their absence.
Cynicism could be linked to heart illness. Oh dear, I am probably done for, then…
Apparently only 36% of parents read to their children in the South West, the lowest in the country. What a sad state of affairs, I used to love being read to as a child and when I wasn’t being read to by Dad I listened to ‘talking books’ as well. Being read to is brilliant, come on parents!
Well, I have some Addaction business today, so I will close now.
I clearly remember reading to little Christopher (when he was a mere chick), his favourite was the classic The Way Things Work by David Macaulay which I see has a newish edition out.
Otherwise I read him a lot of fairy tales when he was younger as well. The dilemma was always whether to read excitingly or to read to send a person to sleep, a similar problem to reading for myself in bed. Do I read something exciting and not go to sleep, or something boring that has me snoozing in minutes?
Hearing Jo on the radio this morning I am now feeling sorry for the bullies; after all they had made their peace with Shilpa, and are now being bullied in a far more damaging way by the meejia. ‘Let those without guilt cast the first stone’, comes to mind…
Don’t mention the crash…
