What dreams may come

Veggie BurgerIt is simply amazing what a good night’s sleep can do. A cliche, I know, but like so many of the darn things very much a truism. Yesterday Chicken and I suffered a little post-birthday blues and we were both unnessarily tired and irratable. Today, after falling back asleep for another stolen but precious half hours sleep we both felt restored.

Quite wonderful.

No, I am preparing to return to the conclusion of my dissertation (current word count being 17,607 in three chapters) but holding on to the weekend for a momet longer by posting about it.

Chicken’s birthday was decidedly unplanned and very much a relaxed affair. We woke up and he opened his presents in bed. Then he ate a full English breakfast and we had a bubbly bath to the music from Amelie. We then just sat around and pottled for a bit, before popping in to town and then cycling up to see my Nan for a quick cup of tea. My brother and family came to bring presents in the early evening and then it was off for a swift pint at The Inn on the Square (nice, but no real ale, so not to be a regular for us!). We then headed off to the lovely Italian Giovanni’s where we had a gorgoeous meal and breath taking desert!

On Saturday we headed off to Exeter on the 10:01 train. We went to Debenhams to buy my wedding dress. Sadly, the only one left in my size was ripped. The twelve-year-olds in store suggested I try Plymouth. A Great help. So we decided to order in over the internet on return home. We then had an amazing light lunch at Herbie’s, a veggie cafe. I had falaffel in pita - yum! It is so nice to enjoy veggie food with Chicken, he always seems to be willing to try different things and he never has any of the meat-eater crap that some people do. He filled up on his protein with a bean burger, which I will soon try to make at home. We followed this up with more wandering round Exeter before heading back to be picked up by my Dad at Umberleigh. We spent some time at Swimbridge, where Chris got his remaining family gifts before we went for another nice meal at The Jack Russell. I enjoyed Sam’s local cider and a roast tom’ parcel, Chicken tried a new ale, Village Pride and topped up his protein further with half a duck!

Yesterday we woke up tired, which was a shame. We determined a relaxing day. In the afternoon my borther Alex came round and we watched The Family Stone, which was bloody awful. Brothers and sisters swapping partners over Christmas with this all presided over by an supposedly liberal Diane Keaton and her bitch daughter and deaf/mute gay son. Horrible crap…

In the evening Mr C and I saw on of his presents from me, He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, starring the beautiful Mlle Tautou. It was good, with a interesting twist (which, annoyingly, we knew about!). Good acting and well worth a watch, however.

Then we slept.
