A Devonian weekend

Fidel, so it seems, lives. He has also turned 80, which is pretty good going by any standards. I wonder if Ernesto would have lasted so long, without those friendly Bolvians? We had, for what felt like the first time in ages a quiet weekend. On Saturday we had a long relaxing bath and chatted about the wedding. Then we popped in to town on a unsuccessful mission to find games! In the evening we went with my family to the Jack Russell in their village of Swimbridge (where the dogs were originally bred by a hunting mad Rev.) It has recenty changed hands from a rather misrable owner who once served me up Tesco Value Apple Pie as ‘apple pie and ice cream’ at £2.95 a go. It is a complete change for the better! The food, almost all round, was fantastic. Mr C had a stake and ale pie so large it hardly fit the plate and home-made chips. I had lobster tails - which were very like scampi - and a lovely oven-baked jacket. There were other lovely dishes, including stakes and a gorgeous roast tomato and onion puff parcel. Plus there were real ales and a local - and very tasty - cider. All good! Sunday we just vegged out, with Chicken completing F.E.A.R. and us both watching the deeply forgettable The Skeleton Key. Back to work/dissertation/applications no though! |
