Close, but no cigar

It certainly appears that the life of Fidel Castro may be nearing its end. He has ‘handed over’ power to his brother Raul (who many have said should have had the power in the first place…). But Cuban news agencies are now saying he is ‘fine’ and that they will not report anything further on his health due to ‘the enemy’ (at least they have the guts to call America that straight out!) taking advantage. On this very subject I have found this funny little article. I particulary enjoy the melted pills attempt! Close, but no cigar. Well, Cars. Although not quite as much of a durge as Finding Nemo (why did people love that so much? Why?) it had none of the snappy excellence of Toy Story or Ice Age. It was too drawn out, too obvious and the characters somehow too inanimate to induce strong feelings. It was the same story it always is, nasty boy (or girl, but this one was a boy) is selfish and one-track minded; selfishness almost gets him what he wants but not quite; on the journey to get what he thinks he wants he finds what he really needs - to care for others. Aww. There were some great moments: “cow” tipping; races; Micheal Schumacher and the odious Jeremy Clarkson doing brief voice stints. But it was just too long. Close, but no cigar. Today my brother is 21 - so happy birthday Alex! Now, must get back to my dissertation… |
