Viva la France

I am watchong the World Cup final, and, as you may have guessed, I am supporting the Henry, erm, I mean France. One-one at the moment, so finger’s crossed. I took a major spill off my bike on Friday, so I now have a crocked knee and skinned elbow - nice. Yesterday we went to Swimbridge School fayre with my nephew and niece and then took them to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Now, I loved the first one, it was excellent fun and Johnny Depp was brilliant as the a-moral-camp-Keith Richards that is Jack Sparrow but this seemed like a bit of money-making bosh of Disney’s part. It seemed to go on and on and on. There seemed to be hours of moral agonising by both pirates and Kiera Knightley alike. Depp did very little other than run like a cross-dresser and have a couple of amusing lines - generally the humour of the first film was gone. Knighley’s Elizabeth was an uptight virgin, Bloom’s William Turner the blustering - bloody boring - hero, Davey Jones somehow made less scary by being a squid thing. His crew was scary, as was the fact that most of it was sea-bound and there was a giant sea-monster thing with bad breath, but where was the humour!?!?!? It all seemed like it was simply there to get you to go again to the third one! Lets hope it is better… |

You have point, it was a lot of bangs and flashes, and not so funny and we never really got an explanation of where the key came from, or what Jack was doing in that tower/prison. And we have to wait for the next one…
BUT, hallo, pirate movies are always fun.
Also a lot of us waited in the cinema for the last second clip. I don’t think I am giving away the world’s biggest secret to say that after 10 minutes or so of credits you get a picture of jail dog sitting on the cannibal’s throne, waiting to be put in the pot. AAAAAAAAAARGH
But heck, I liked it. I am a pirate after all… Ever since ‘Animal House’ or was it ‘Peter Pan’?
