Annoying

Yesterday was annoying. York was packed with half-term tourists, milling about in that stupid way tourists (a.k.a. – in Devon at least – Grockles!) do, eating ice cream although it is freezing and going ohhhhhh! at the Castle mound.

Even more annoying were the “lovely people” I had to deal with at the University.

Then a run for the train and the depressing journey back in to a somewhat gloomy Huddersfield evening.

Chris and I then had an annoying meal at our usual favourite the Head of Steam (our last meal there before C moves). Usually the meals there (especially the burgers) are gorgeous, but last night half of it was over done and the other half burnt to a frazzle. Annoying or what?!

Then we watched the England friendly and found Owen Hargreaves annoying. Thank goodness for Theo!

Steel city

The cold is retreating a little and is now an evil sounding cough. Probably a good thing, I suppose.

Why is transport so expensive?! The government wonders why people get so annoyed and use their cars all the time when public transport is ineffient and a downright rip off! Why is is cheaper to go to Warsaw than it is to go to Sheffield?!?!?!

OK, enough, before I get to much like some twisted old Daily Mail reader on acid.

Reading, reading and more reading today (currently Otsuka) and as much writing as I can do. I really prefer to do all my reading first, hence the writer’s block. Oh well, it’ll get there in the end.

Oh, and a trip to Tesco for lettuce and other things that are good for us.

Seven days to go…

In other news

Actually related to my life, we are ‘enjoying’ our last week before Chris starts work. By which I mean he sits in our bed on his computer and I work frantically on my dissertation!!!

Well, not really, we also cook together most nights and watch telly in the evenings. Later in the week my borther and family are visiting, and next weekend there is Chris’ leaving do.

Must get on with the thesis now. Out damn spot…

The Bass is back!

Well Big Brother is getting increasingly – if it is possible – freaky!

It looks like series five contestant Michelle Bass is back – in the form of a miniture (in staure rather than mouth, apparently!) Manc. Now, as all tohse who live in Yorkshire now, those Lancastrians are never easy to live with, but when they turn in to bunny-boilers they are even worse!!!!!!!!!

Poor Pete, if he so much as cuddles the weird mummy/porn star combo that is Lea he gets a tirade from Lisa. How will she react when he tells her to back off?!

Other than that, Chris and I are waiting for things to kick off, as the enevitably will! Just wish it would hurry up and happen…

Snuffles

ColdI have yet another cold. Very annoying. This one is very heavy on the sinuses, with a minor cough and the occasional sneeze. Oh well, never mind.

Come on summer! One stunning week and now it is grey everyday — apparently the wettest May since the year I was born. Cripes.

As predicted, Bonner was ousted last night, and proved no more interesting in her post-booting interview with Davina. New housemates on Monday though, so lets hope with have some Kitten stylee individual to stir it up! No more fasionable sheep, please, BB!!!

Oh well, time to brave the grey and meet Andrew in town and get myself a paper. The dissertation is going a little better, by the way, I have done a lot of reading and some writing, so it is coming together a little more.

The DaVinci Code

Last SupperChris and I went yesterday afternoon to see the much hyped film of the much hyped book The DaVinci Code.

I borrowed the book, ages ago, from mother-in-law-to-be, but could never get in to reading it, so neither of us knew much apart from it featured Opus Dei, The Last Supper, a self-flagellating monk and it had annoyed the church.

We thought it was pretty good, our favourite Audrey Tautou was, as usual, very good, as were Tom Hanks, Sir Ian, Alfred Molina and the creepy Paul Betthany. The plot was quick and interesting and had things that made you half-believe the story (the person next to Jesus in the painting does look incredibly feminine, after all). All-in-all an interesting and slick thriller (without any real thrills, perhaps) and with the always fasinating Grail stuff thrown in. Definitly worth a watch but not one that will stay for you for long.

Bang bang your dead

George Galloway really is a prat. He is so obsessed by his own “celebrity” (and that is what he is obsessed with, not his so-called politics) that he will appear on Celebrity Big Brother - the land of has-beens and attention-seekers – and declare bizarre things to any member of the media. Such as, say, that the assination of Tony Blair is justified because of the Iraq war.

Now, as regular readers – or anyone who has probably ever met me for about six seconds or so – will know I am not all t hat fond of Blair myself, he has helped destroy the Labour party, introduced some of the most right-wing policy this country has witnessed (MT apart, of course) and licked a hell of a lot of Yank bum. But, even taking this as granted would I feel justified assinating the shameless creature? Nope. Do I think others are justified? Nope.

Anger is justified, even necessary. But shooting him will make him a martyr (how many people mention the Bay of Pigs when waxing lyrical about JFK?) as well as giving repulsive “parties” such as the BNP a clearer platform than ever before…

Galloway, think about what you’re saying, not all news is good news.

Update

As soon as I wrote, in my previous post ‘it is a lovely sunny day’ it clouded over. That’ll teach me…

I’ll drown it out with opera and Mozart (my current favourite listening), just as I am with the bloody loud game Christopher is playing.

A house is a machine for living in

I am currently trying to blog everyday. So, if I am blurbling on about nothing in particular then at least it is in a good cause.

It is a beautiful sunny day, but one when I have to try to put together a first chapter for my dissertation. It is going slowly, but the foundations are there and building up little by little each day. It would help if I could ‘get in to it’ the way I did with my undergraduate thesis, which was highly consuming and finished very quickly.

It looks like, subject to a couple more things, we have a rented home in Barnstaple to move to, which is brilliant. We have yet to see it, but my parents have been and say it is really nice. We both cannot wait to have our own place again.

Poor Shahbaz has been bullied and hounded out of the BB house. I think this was entirely orchestrated by the highly manipulative Richard, in combination with the highly damaged and obviously quite unhinged pairing of Lea and Nikki. Sezer thinks he’s done it, but in fact he is just going to take the flack. Which is a good thing in one way as he is a ghastly little shit of a human being and deserves to be thrown out of his self-proclaimed ‘palace’ pronto. The way Imogen is moving in on him Saskia stylee now she thinks – as S did with the horrible Maxwell – that he is ‘powerful’ is quite amusing! The real question now is will Dawn run before becoming the next member of the group to be slowly ousted by the freaky threesome?

Shaken and smoothed

Chicken and I just found the most delicious thing, a fantastic smoothie. They are currently cheap in Sainsbury’s and worth a try! They are my second favourite discovery of the last couple of days, as these are even better!!! We thought the diet should include organic stuff as well, you see, so now I have organic porridge and the like as well!

Enough of food. We have had a drama today in the Sains/Boot household as the-parents-in-law-to-be are currently cruising around Russia and were today in Moscow before flying back to the UK. Frantic calls and texts were fired from the Russian capital when mother-in-law-to-be had her credit cards stolen!!! After brother-in-law-to-be had cancelled all said cards and spoken at lengh to the bank she found them in her bag!!!!!!!!! A relief for all concerned and a few giggles as well.

Also, for you Huddersfieldians out there, try out Mymou (lots of recommendations today), the new bar next to the LBT in town. ‘Tis lovely.
