Calm down dear, it’s only an old fart

Why do people get so worked up by Michael Winner? I turned on the BBC News this morning to find the presenters reading out hundreds of e-mails about the ‘North/South divide’ and repeatedly saying they ‘couldn’t read out’ the ones about Winner, who had said in an interview that their was ‘nothing’ in the North any ‘right-minded’ person would want to see. Why bother responding to him? He is a man who has built an entire career on being controversial and annoying (as the recent advert campaign he was involved in - until being replaced by a blue mouse with an American accent - played on). He is no doubt loving the fact he’s all over the telly, for once! I personally do not know where I stand on the North/South issue. I was born in the South, and now my ‘home’ is in Devon, but I have spent a lot of my life ‘up North’ as well (when not in Ireland, of course!), having lived for years in Mansfield and gone to University in Yorkshire. I like both ends of the country. Also, for those of you who, like me, are interested in reading about crime and such nasty stuff, I spent an enjoyable hour on here today. Not very well written, but a good synopsis of some major murders. |
