First off: happy birthday Alex! On a more ’serious’ note, ‘hate crime’ has risen by 600% in the London area since July 7th. I have just seen John O’Conner (former Met Commissioner) on BBC News 24 - yes, I do like watching that, don’t I? - was complaining that this is ’scare mongering’ on the part of the Police, as they do not usually give monthly data on reported crime, what’s more, these crimes were not ‘important’ crimes such as burning a Mosque or violence, they were mostly verbal abuse. Oh, right, that’s OK then! In a week when a young man has been murdered - after a verbal attack - because of his colour you would think that Mr O’Conner would think a bit more before talking… Oh well, he was a copper, I suppose. Chris and I are off to the caravan later today, probably until Saturday. |
