As you will know if you read this blog often, or, indeed, know Mr Chicken or myself, “our” film is ‘Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain’ - we first watched it on a rainy Sunday afternoon soon after we started going out and it just hit the right mood for us! Well, two geeky people finding love, strikes a cord I suppose!
Anyway, whilst in Paris, Chicken and I wanted to try to find the cafe - in which Amélie works in the film - the Deux Moulin, which is located in Monmartre. So, we headed off there on Saturday evening.
The place was absolutely teeming with people, so we used our Paris Visite cards to head up on the vernacular railway to Sacré Cour, after a look inside the church, we looked at the beautiful panoramic view from the stairs, and walked through the gardens (as seen in ‘Amélie’, in the scene with the blue arrows). We then hunted for the cafe, with a set of instructions from the Police (ha! We shouldn’t have believed them!), we went down the main street, up to a windmill, back up to Scaré Cour, back down, back along two side-streets, through the artisan part of town, and then sat rather defeated on the steps and looked out on Paris. Feeling thirsty and tired we went for a wine/beer (and water!) and met up with Mum and Noreen before returning to our hotel without finding the Deux Moulin.
Still, it was good fun anyway.
Yesterday, we looked on the internet, and found we just missed the cafe, which was further down the main street! Never mind, we’ll be back!
