Moving out… of the Big Brother house!

Big BrotherOK, so any one who knows Chicken and I will know we like to watch ‘Big Brother’ – very sad, isn’t it? But as Chris’ brother said last night ‘but so addictive!’

I was quite uncertain that I would want to watch when this series started, but I carried on anyway (sad, sad, sad bastard that I am) growing to hate the self-obsessed, boob-obsessed wannabes more and more. Somehow, watching horrible people fight and be miserable is oddly gratifying (nasty bastard as well, maybe?!).

Anyway, the two housemates we in our household hate the most this year are the manipulative demon queen that is Saskia and the ‘lads-lad who actually has the maturity of a 5 year old’ Maxwell (why are so many Gooners arseholes? Not only Jeremy Beadle, but now Maxwell, why?). And this week both are up for eviction! Hooray!

Ch-ch-changes

Mr Chicken has begun his last week at Oracle. He is, obviously, feeling rather sad to be leaving after a year there, and it feels like a strange time of transition for us both.

I am quite pleased to be leaving, as I have had such a annoying year – on the finding a job front – but at the same time I am sad to be leaving the book shop, and my friends there, and our lovely flat. I will miss being able to have weekends at my parents and being able to see Chris’ brothers/family often. I will miss being able to get on the train to London if we want. I will really hate being back in the colder Yorkshire weather, but I will be very happy to spend more time with my friends up there again. Plus (almost best of all!) I get to work my mind again!!!!!!!!! It is mixed feelings really. It is only a year back up there, after all.

Bad things

It is thundering here…

I hate thunder.

I find it very frightening. And oppressive. I have been afraid of it since I was a child, a mere baby. Luckily I am at home now, having been to the Job Centre already today. Also, my brother Alex is here, as he is visiting to help us move and have a ‘holiday’.

And finally, yes, I failed again yesterday. Never mind, onwards and upwards.

Holy cow!

Christian Bale as Bruce WayneOn Saturday evening Chicken, Alex and I went to view ‘Batman Begins’ at Barnstaple’s small cinema. I, personally, thought that it was really rather good!

After the truly awful films featuring Val Kilmer and George Clooney as Bruce Wayne/Batters I was slightly worried when I heard about the plans for a new prequel. These were mostly laid to rest when I heard Batman would be played by the very lovely Christian Bale (who regular readers will know is a favourite of mine), but I was still quite worried that we would have wasted our ticket money…

Although the supporting cast seemed a little off par at times (bring back the wonderful Micheal Gough I say!!! So what if he is now 87!), and even if Katie Holmes could act she hardly had any character with which to do it (luckily she was saved from having to as she can’t act anyway :-P ). However, Mr Bale was good despite the usual not – exactly – Woody – Allen – but – still – trying – to – be – witty type script, and seeing how Batman, well, began was pretty interesting for a long-time fan!!!

Technical glitch

I am currently using the PC at home, and have noticed that Internet Explorer does not show up the pictures on my entries.

Sorry about this, but we have no idea why it is happening – maybe a bug in IE? – so we can’t rectify the problem. I suggest you look in to updating to Firefox instead ;-)

Glorious food

Yummy pestoThis is a completely random post, but I just wanted to say how much I love pesto!

It is currently my favourite thing to eat (apart from Christmas/wedding cake, Chicken’s beautiful mousse and pistachio ice cream!): each day I think ‘I’ll have something else to eat today for lunch’ and then, as 12:15 approaches I always end up boiling the kettle for my penne! It has me in its grip! I remember when I first fell for it big time, I was with my loved one and his brother and we were staying at Chris’ parent’s house near Tourrette. Chicken’s parents were away until the afternoon, so we headed off to Vence for lunch. I ordered tagliatelle with fresh pesto – ever since then, I can’t get enough of the stuff!

Sadly, as it often includes cashew nuts, it makes Mr C ill…

Oh well, nobody’s perfect!

At the end of the day

Why is it the second day is always worse than the first?

The traffic was mad yesterday around Barnstaple, but today it was evil! It is grey and rainy (yesterday was a more ‘sunshine and showers’ type thing), I didn’t drive as well and I am very, very very tired. Oh well, never mind – if at second you don’t succeed, try, try again!!!

Well, things are quiet here. Tomorrow Mr Chicken arrives, which I am looking forward to. We are thinking – if the weather improves – we may make our way to the caravan. Or, alternatively, go to see ‘Batman Begins’.

All go

Do you know something very, very annoying? When you book tickets from thetrainline.com they often have completely the wrong times on them! For example, today, I am going back to Devon for just over a week for my second driving test (gulp) and I got up safe in the knowledge I had my ticket booked and my train would leave at 13:32.

Not so!!!

I just thought I’d check to see if the delays on the route yesterday were still carrying on, and low and behold my train doesn’t even exist! Lucky I checked or my brother would have been stuck at Tiverton Parkway for over an hour and I would have been very panicked!

Fun fun fun in the sun sun sun

ArsenalWell, we had a lovely and very drunken weekend with our visiting friends Sandra and Neil!

We went to Highbury on Friday, which was really cool. It was along time since any of us had been there (and Chris’ first trip), so was great to go there again. We saw the new shirt (which I am not sure about!) and visited the shop – although we were 5 minutes too late for the museum!

The Perfect 10?

There was once a book which claimed that fat is a feminist issue

Poor old Kelly Osbourne is back in rehab. OK, so they are spoilt little rich kids to some extent, but Kelly O has been quoted saying she has found the panning of her album and constant jibes about her body and image hard to take.

You can see why. Kelly is the average size of a woman in the UK (and we all know we are second to the States when it comes to ‘obesity’), a size 16. She does insist on dressing fashionably and in rather odd garments, which do not make her look her best, but even so, she is a normal looking woman in a world of stick-insects. Osbourne’s body image cannot have been helped by her own mother’s transition from normal to scrapped and skinny via the surgeon’s knife, but in many ways she has taken over the mantel – from the now also scraped and skinny Kate Winslet – of the “normal woman in Hollywood” (if that is not a contradiction in terms!).
