Berkshire and being busy

I wrote this all out last night, a long and fine entry, which Chris froze the computer on and lost in the great black hole of cyber-space… Very very deeply disheartening. I have just done the second draft of my ISU’s first chapter - hopefully this one will be conclusive! - and now I am about to begin my American politics essay. We had a 45 minutes lecture in American politics on Monday - really annoying as we should have two hours, and we have a seminar later in the afternoon, meaning people who have to drive in have several hours wait! It is general madness again in our department, as several people have failed or done really badly in their Methodology essay. Andrew and I spoke to our Head of Department and she is going to look into the whole thing and revise the teaching, which is great. Sad for our year tho’, as some people have had their confidence knocked by it all. Andrew and I have had a busy week of meetings and university work, really!!! I am more relaxed now than I thought I would be about the work load - the dissertation is under way and I did all my formative essays yesterday, so we shall see… On Tuesday Chris and I went to Reading for his Oracle interview the day after. We arrived at our B & B at about 21:00 and had to wait for the manager to arrive back to let us in about 20 minutes later! That was the good part of our stay, too. Our bedroom was very spartan and had no kettle as promised, the toilet had no working light and no loo roll. We settled to bed to the sound of crying babies and hoovers. When we got up (at about 6:30) we discovered that the shower didn’t work either! To top it all off, there was no breakfast (more of a ‘B’ than a ‘B & B’ then…) as the manager was still asleep on his office floor… Nevermind, Oracle will pay for it I suppose! Chris went off for his interview, which he thinks went well and he really likes the place - so FINGERS CROSSED! I went around Reading town centre all morning, and it seems a nice enough place, much the same as any other. It somewhat reminds me of Exeter, as it is quite new a clean looking but with old housing. When Chris got out we had lunch and a drink and then caught our train home back up North! We have both been tired out since! Happy Valentine’s Day! For the 22nd year in a row I received no card - but I did get a bottle of champagne and a Thai curry for my dinner! Lovely! Well, time to do some more writing! Oh, and good luck Arsenal! |
